Massage therapy can be intimidating and I absolutely acknowledge that. You can expect the table to be comfortable. The table can be heated because your body temperature normally drops as you relax so if you get cold, please let me know. Conversely, if you are hot let me know as well. I will not do anything you do not want me to, or that hurts so I will need you to let me know if you are uncomfortable. Depending on the type of bodywork you're requesting, it can be done with or without clothing. If you elect to remove your clothing, I will only undrape one area of the body at a time leaving everything that is not being massaged covered. Draping is required in South Carolina and is for your safety and comfort. My table is fully adjustable and I have many methods to help you remain comfortable.
Massage should not be painful. I don't subscribe to the "No pain, No gain" mantra and bodywork does not have to be painful to be effective. You should always let me know if you are uncomfortable. Pressure is subjective, meaning every person experiences it differently. Having a high pain tolerance means nothing to me during your massage. I'm more concerned with your pain threshold, which is when you perceive a stimulus as painful but may not necessarily outwardly express it. My goal is to not exceed your pain threshold, so I will be watching for non-verbal cues from your nervous system that you're nearing your threshold and I'll also ask that you let me know if you're in pain.
I have two rules in my treatment room when it comes to pressure: 1. I will not use so much pressure that your nervous system is on edge which will cause you pain or discomfort, and 2. I will not use so much pressure that I hurt myself.
Prior to COVID, I shared a space with a colleague in Summerville. When the Governor shut down massage services and schools went virtual it was impossible to work. I moved my office to my home in an effort to continue to work and help my children navigate virtual schooling. I realized I really hated battling traffic so I'm working toward expanding my home office to a private building on my property.
Although I try to limit my personal and professional life mixing as much as possible, you may encounter one of my animals. I have an extremely curious cat who prefers to greet every client. If you are allergic to animals please let me know! My pets are not allowed in my office as I do have some clients who are sensitive to animals and I do not want them to be uncomfortable. It is also entirely possible that you may spot one of my children playing outside.
YES! I'd be happy to provide you with a summary of our visit and receipt as well if you need that. I do not file health insurance.
I've been booking out about 2-3 weeks in advance. If you are needing MLD for post-op please or a massage session plan ahead accordingly because I likely do not have availability for at least 2 weeks from today. Thank you!
